About Us

About bridgeonline.app

We publish a free, modern browser version of contract bridge: a full auction, dummy play, hints, and duplicate-style scoring against three computer players, in a layout that works on any screen.

Our craft

One deck. Four players.

Bid it, play it, score it. That loop is everything we design around.

What we make

A free bridge game that stays in the browser

bridgeonline.app is the site behind our bridge game. You sit South with North as your partner against East and West. Each deal begins with an auction to set the contract, then thirteen tricks are played with the declarer controlling the dummy, and the result is scored with contract points, bonuses, and penalties.

We are not an app-store publisher and there is nothing to download. The game is the website. That keeps load times short, works on phones and desktops alike, and avoids an account wall. Deals won, scores, contract records, and streaks live in local browser storage on your device.

If you are comparing this to another bridge site, this page only speaks for bridgeonline.app. The rules, bidding, and scoring described in our how-to-play guide and FAQ match this exact build.

Our story

From whist tables to your browser tab

Bridge has one of the richest histories of any card game. We treat that as a responsibility to get the rules exactly right and to keep the friction as close to zero as we can.

  1. 01

    From whist to biritch

Bridge descends from whist, the dominant English trick-taking game of the 18th and 19th centuries. By the 1890s players had added a bidding step, and biritch, or bridge whist, let one player name trumps and lay down a dummy hand — the features that still define the game today.

  2. 02

    Contract bridge

In 1925 Harold Vanderbilt, on a cruise, formalised contract bridge: only tricks bid and made count toward game, and vulnerability raises the stakes. Ely Culbertson then made the game a phenomenon through the 1930s with a workable bidding system, and duplicate tournaments made the scoring fairer by having everyone play the same deals.

  3. 03

    This build

bridgeonline.app is an independent implementation of contract bridge with duplicate-style deal scoring. The rules are the ones bridge players know; what is new is a table that is clear on a phone, computer players that bid in plain natural language, a hint button for learners, and a scoring breakdown after every deal.

What we stand for

Principles behind every deal

A real game of bridge

Every deal has a proper auction, an exposed dummy, thirteen tricks, and duplicate-style scoring with the standard dealer and vulnerability rotation. It is contract bridge, not a simplified imitation.

Instant to start

Press Play and a hand is dealt. No account wall, no download, no splash video — the cards are on the table before you finish reading this sentence.

Yours to keep

Deals won, total score, best deal, contracts made, and win streak live on your device. We do not hold your record hostage behind a login, because there is no login.

Free, for real

The whole game is free. No energy meters, no interstitial video ads between deals, and no paywall on hints.

Who it is for

Players who want a clean game of bridge

bridgeonline.app is a family-friendly, single-player game with no chat and no store. A poor fit if you want live human opponents or tournaments; a good fit if you want the real game of bridge, on whatever screen is nearby, whenever you have time for a hand.

  • Learners

New to bridge? The computer partner and opponents bid in a natural style, so an auction reads like plain language, and the hint button suggests the sensible choice at each turn.

  • Lapsed players

Played years ago and want a quick hand? A deal takes five to ten minutes, with no partner to find, no scheduling, and no scorepad.

  • Practising players

Practise declarer play and defence hand after hand against opponents that never tire. Play as many deals as you like and track your running total.

Why this site

How bridgeonline.app is different

There are strong bridge sites built around live tables and tournaments. This one exists to ship a single honest, fast version for playing on your own: correct rules, clear scoring, and no clutter.

  • Honest computer players

The computer players decide from their own hand, the auction, the cards played, and the dummy once it is down — the same information a person would have. They do not peek at your hand.

  • Transparent scoring

After every deal you see the breakdown line by line: contract points, game or part-score bonus, slam bonus, overtricks, and penalties. Nothing is a black box.

  • No clutter

No auto-playing video, no fake download-our-app banners, no dark patterns around settings. The how-to-play guide and FAQ describe this exact engine, not a generic write-up.

How we build

Designed for the browser you already have

The game runs entirely on the web: fast loads, click / tap / keyboard controls, and progress that stays local unless you clear your browser data. We use lightweight analytics to see what helps players — never to gate the game behind a profile. The engine on the home page is the one described on our rules pages, so search results and the live game never drift apart.

  • Play anywhere

Phone, tablet, and desktop share one table. Click with a mouse, tap on a touchscreen, or use keyboard shortcuts to bid, pass, double, play a card, or ask for a hint.

  • Progress on your device

Deals played, total score, best deal, contracts made, and streaks are stored locally. You own the continuity of your record without signing up.

  • Quiet improvement

We watch aggregate usage through Google Analytics to improve pacing and polish. Details are in our Privacy Policy — never as a sales pitch.
